Admissions

DMS Requirements 

The following requirements must be met prior to the application deadlines:

  1. Admission to Mt. San Jacinto College.  All students must have a student ID# which can be obtained by submitting an online application to the college.  

  2. Complete new student orientation.   

  3. All students are advised to meet with a college counselor prior to applying to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program (DMS) to review completed coursework or create an educational plan.  

  4. For program admission, students are required to provide proof of High School Diploma, G.E.D., California Proficiency Exam, or a College Degree.  

  5. Submit official transcripts from all colleges and/or universities attended to officialtranscripts@msjc.edu .  Transcripts must be sent directly from Colleges or Transcript Vendors to Enrollment Services.  Transcripts forwarded by students will be considered unofficial.

  6. Review program website for any updates.  Additionally, it is recommended for students to meet with a counselor once a semester to review course progress, program updates, and/or program deadlines. 

  7. Attend an Information Workshop or view the  DMS Powerpoint Presentation online to obtain a "Certificate of Attendance" for attending the Information Workshop.  Click here for DMS Workshops schedule.  

  8. Cumulative GPA of at least a 2.5 on a 4.0 college scale in the following:

  9. All admission requirement courses, and general education courses required for graduation must be completed with a grade of "C" or better.  

  10. Once all prerequisites are in progress or have been completed, students are required to meet with a counselor to submit a Nursing and Allied Health Evaluation Request. This request must be submitted from July 1 -  December 1 to be eligible to apply for the program beginning the following fall semester.   

  11. Students must be at least 18 years of age.

  12. Students must pass the TEAS VI Test with a 70% or higher. MSJC will not proctor the TEAS test on campus. Please register for the TEAS VI  test on the ATI Website.  Student are allowed 2 attempts per application period. 

  13. Students must provide own transportation to all affiliated hospitals.  

Approximate Expenses

When planning expenses students should be aware, they may have to limit their hours of employment due to extensive DMS Program requirements. Scholarships, grants and loans are available to those students who qualify through the MSJC Financial Aid office


1. Students pay for tuition, ASB card and a parking permit as stated in the current college catalog.
2. Tuition - $46.00 unit (57 units)
3. Designated by the Nursing-Allied Health Department $70.00
4. DMS textbooks and supplies - $400-$600
5. SDMS membership and journal access - $40 or AIUM student membership - $25
6. CPR course -$65 (Must be American Heart Association/Healthcare Provider -BLS)
7. Physical Examination/laboratory tests - $300-$500
8. Background Clearance + Drug Screening + Medical Document Manager - $122
9. Transportation cost to and from training site- Variable
10. Liability Insurance covering students is provided by the college at no cost to the student.
11. Students who are assigned to Desert Regional Medical Center for Clinicals will have to provide a Drug screening
within 30 days of placement.
12. Conferences: Edelman Physics conference ($300), UCLA Fetal Echo Conference ($125) and San Diego Perinatal
Conference ($25).
13. After course completion: ARDMS SPI (Sonography Physics and Instrumentation) and specialty exams - $250
each.
Students are required to carry their own Professional Liability Insurance, $1-3 million. Approx. $25. Students
are also required to show proof of Personal Health Insurance, which is required by Clinical Sites.
Proof of these two items must be uploaded onto Castlbranch.com Any student who does not submit this
information will not be able to attend clinicals.

Note: Meeting admission requirements for the program does not guarantee admission into the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program (DMS).

DMS Application Information

Applications will be posted on the DMS website one week before and during the application filing period and will be accepted March 1-15 of each year (confirm actual dates on website). 

Applications will be reviewed using the DMS criteria selection process​​.  

Program begins fall semester only.

All prospective applicants are required to meet with a counselor to have a Nursing and Allied Health Evaluation Request  signed off before submitting. Students will then submit it to Enrollment Services electronically through the Student Support Hub prior to submitting an application to the DMS program. Evaluations are valid for 9 months.  

Once the evaluation is completed, students will receive an eligibly email with a link to “Program Notes” which will provide a  written report of your transcript evaluation and application eligibility. Emails will be sent to MSJC student email only. Students should review this email carefully, as it will outline the documents submitted, the remaining documents required in order to apply to the DMS program, as well as the next steps the student needs to complete in order to apply to the program.
